Lake Country Hearth & Patio opened at Lake Oconee in October of 2019, but in reality, we have been doing this for over 60 years. Lake Country Hearth & Patio is actually a subsidiary of the Wilhoit Gas Company, founded in 1946 by two brothers, Wirt and Judson Wilhoit. After their service in World War II, they started Wilhoit Gas, the first company in the state of Georgia to exclusively sell nothing but propane.
Of course, as the years went by and business expanded in the Warrenton Georgia area, the brothers took on and sold other products to compliment their propane business. Heaters, stoves, water heaters and anything else that needed propane for fuel were offered to their customers. Back in the early days, Wilhoit Gas was at one time a Certified Lennox dealer.
After many business moves and expansions, Wilhoit Gas is now headquartered in Greensboro Georgia. The company is still 100% family owned. Since 1991, Wirt’s daughter Beth has continued to expand the business along with her her son, Bill Ard, and a dedicated staff of delivery and service personnel. Wilhoit Gas currently covers 9 Georgia counties centered around offices in Greensboro and Washington Georgia.
The expansion continues with the opening of Lake Country Hearth & Patio. The Showroom is intended to give customers the opportunity to see live and in person the items they are interested in. We felt that it was a disservice to our customers for them to have to pick a set of logs out of a catalog based on just a picture, or at worse buy online and have no real idea if what they purchased would even work. It is our belief that customers need to see the beauty and feel the heat of gas logs in order to confirm which logs are perfect for their home. Not only that, as technology has progressed, there are a lot of choices and options concerning operating controls for gas log sets. To make a wise decision, customers need to see it work. So to better serve our customers, the Showroom was opened.
Lake Country Hearth & Patio uses veteran Wilhoit Gas service personnel for installation of all our products. Our service personnel have vast experience in all things propane, from installing logs, to completely plumbing houses for propane use. Between the two entities, we can completely set you up with a reliable provider of propane and all the trimmings. This includes a complimentary service call to see if what you want to do will work. If you are not sure if what you want will fit, we will come out and make sure it will.
The motto of the company has always been, “First in Georgia, First in Service”. It is more than a motto, it is a goal we strive to achieve each and every day. We look forward to working with you to show that we are still doing Wirt and Judson proud.
